Field work is the very basis for all geological research and is as such omnipresent at the Department of Geology at Ghent University. Containing 6 research groups, each having several foci, a large variety of methods, locations and scientific goals is present in this dynamic group of researchers. This blog tries to give an overview of the conducted fieldwork and how it is done. We will take you from Japan to Brazil, from Alaska to Europe, from Thailand to Patagonia, from… We will explain how land based research is conducted and how marine research is done. We will bring you up to date on why this fieldwork is necessary and how it contributes to achieving the research goals.
